Welcome First Harvest!
Fruit of our labor revealed,
What we strive for, what we gain
All come forth through the year’s sun and rain!
I am excited at this Lughnasadh because I have completed the first phase of writing a book. I have a real manuscript; the first harvest of my labor. My second harvest goal is to see the manuscript edited and ready for publication. My dream is to have it published next year and in the hands of many readers.
This year, my first harvest is the accumulation of many other first harvests coming together to lead me to this grand reaping. For I have been a writer from birth, yet I needed to cultivate the skills, the lessons, and the story throughout the course of my life.
In olden days the first harvest (marked on the Wheel of the Year as August 1st) was very important to the people because they had to gather all the food they could in preparation for the dark and cold winter. Lammas or Lughasadh, named after the great Celtic God Lugh (My favorite!), is a festival that celebrates the hard work leading to the harvest. It is a time of celebration and merriment.
It is also an important festival of gratitude. Being grateful for what we have; not dwelling in what we don’t have or what we may have lost. Celebrate the Corn Mother, celebrate your labors, embrace what you’ve got going for you and you will be amazed at what the Universe will gift you with in the future. Continue to strive, push yourself now, for the second harvest, a stretch toward your dream is only a few weeks away….
Blessings at Lughnasadh! Merriment be yours!
